Sunsetting - The Library Access

The Library Access is a collection of courses focused on lowering the barrier to learning and mastering Embedded Systems software engineering. While everything is already available for free on the internet, it is scattered. With Library Access, our intention was to explain that information through a practical lens and offer it all organized under a single platform.

We first started offering the Library Access in April 2025. The Library would offer all the courses Mahmad and I created. We believed this to be a fair deal. It ensured those who paid kept getting value, and there was no confusion about which bundle or collection to invest in. Because we did this as a hobby, we created courses on a best-effort basis and released lectures and podcasts in a rather random manner (which is why some courses are still incomplete).

As it stands now — there are more than 25 learning tracks in the Library.

Why Sunset?

[!NOTE] We are sunsetting the Library Access and will stop offering it by Nov 1, 2026. There will be no new subscriptions or renewals allowed.

In a recent interaction with community members on our WhatsApp channel, we had two important discoveries:

1. People love the courses ❤️ and content delivery 🙌.
2. Many (students and freshers in the field) want to join the Library Access and find it unaffordable!

In an attempt to address #2, we decided to split the Library into multiple logical tracks and offer those instead. The Library has courses from C language to advanced topics like System IPs (such as SMMU) and FPGA-based hardware design — designed to take someone from having no background in the field to reasoning about firmware, system software, and hardware design, eventually becoming a confident Embedded Systems Engineer.

Given it covers many levels of expertise, the split makes natural sense — each track will have fewer courses (bringing down the cost), allowing the student to afford and digest the information within the validity period.

The split

At a high level, we plan on splitting the Library into following tracks:

1. Embedded Systems for Students: The current plan is to either offer it for free or keep an absolutely minimal price so students can afford it. This learning track will be focused on enabling students to do embedded systems. All essentials to get them going will be included.
2. Firmware Engineering: Think micro-controllers! This track will include everything needed to master micro-controller programming. Things like C Language, ARM Cortex-M assembly programming, Programmer’s model, RTOS internals, OS primitives and all the tools one needs.
3. Systems Software Engineering: All the courses that enable one to work on SoC and distributed complex systems will be included in this track. Everything from Cortex-A, Linux, to System IPs.

While we are at it, we are going to re-record all the courses (more on this below)!

Impact on Existing Subscribers

[!NOTE] Existing subscribers will continue to have access to old and the new content until validity expiry.

We have always respected and taken care of those who trusted and invested in us. We understand how rare the opportunity to serve a community at scale is, and we’re very thankful for it. We’re happy to say there will be no impact on existing users — we will continue adding new courses to the Library Access, and until your validity expires, you keep access.

The only thing to note is that no renewal or new subscription of the Library Access will be allowed after Nov 1, 2026. That’s when it officially sunsets!

All said and done, the Library Access subscribers will get the most bang for the buck!

Fresh, New and Complete courses

As alluded to earlier, we will be re-recording all the courses, making them crisper, clearer, and easier to understand. This decision becomes important and relevant given the impact of AI over the past two years.

In light of the AI tools and how they impact embedded systems development, the old courses feel more like legacy content at the moment. The insights are still relevant, but the workflow, we feel needs to change.

We want to structure the new courses around the AI tools, workflows, and deep system level insights. We believe the future is going to be heavy on design and systems knowledge with AI doing the mechanical grunt work.

Given the past experience with making content, we are sure you’ll enjoy what’s coming even more! We are so excited for the future. The barrier to learning Embedded Systems is going to be lowered even further! 🙌
